The trial of Croatian generals Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac, accused by the Hague war crimes tribunal of crimes committed during and after Operation Storm in the summer of 1995, ended on Wednesday, with presiding Judge Alphons Orie saying a judgement could be expected in the foreseeable future.

Responding to a reporter's question what he expected regarding the final stage of the trial of Generals Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac before the ICTY, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said on Tuesday that he did not expect anything, as "this is a matter for the judiciary".

A defence attorney for Croatian general Ivan Cermak dismissed in his closing argument before the Hague war crimes tribunal on Tuesday the prosecution's allegation that the former commander of the Knin Garrison had powers that greatly exceeded the powers he was entitled to use in that position.

Croatian general Ante Gotovina's lawyer Luka Misetic on Tuesday attacked the closing statements by the Hague war crimes tribunal's Office of the Prosecution, saying the prosecutors were making a series of new arguments against his client instead of doing so during the examination in chief.

ANTE GOTOVINA's attorney Luka Mišetić submitted a criminal report today against three UN military observers for concealment or destruction of the so-called "artillery logs". The report was submitted to the Municipal State Attorney’s Office in Zagreb, said Mišetić.

The trial chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the case of Croatian generals Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac on Friday granted a motion by Gotovina's defence team and issued a binding order to the Republic of Croatia to stop examining documents and computers confiscated in a recent police raid, launched against members of Gotovina's defence team, Hina learned from several sources.

Retired US Army officer Geoffrey Corn, who is a defence witness for Croatian General Ante Gotovina, on Tuesday told the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague that he could not agree with one of the main arguments of the prosecution that the southern Croatian town of Knin was targeted randomly during Operation Storm, when Croatian forces retook areas from Serb rebels in early August 1995.
