Retired US Army officer Geoffrey Corn, who is a defence witness for Croatian General Ante Gotovina, on Tuesday told the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague that he could not agree with one of the main arguments of the prosecution that the southern Croatian town of Knin was targeted randomly during Operation Storm, when Croatian forces retook areas from Serb rebels in early August 1995.  read more...

Retired US Army officer Geoffrey Corn began his testimony as a defence witness in the trial of Croatian Army General Ante Gotovina at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague on Monday. A civilian legal adviser in the US military and a special adviser on war matters, Corn had contacted Gotovina's defence team after discovering certain mistakes in a report presented by a prosecution witness, Harry Konings of the Netherlands, during his testimony earlier this year.   read more...

Croatia's State Attorney Mladen Bajic said at the Hague tribunal on Monday that most perpetrators of crimes committed after the 1995 Croatian army and police operation "Storm" were not members of the Croatian Army (HV), but demobilised soldiers who had kept their uniforms so that they could move more easily and commit crimes in areas where civilian movement was restricted.  read more...

The defence team of Croatian army general Ante Gotovina has asked the Hague war crimes tribunal's trial chamber in the case to order the European Union to hand over the documents the defence wants, and whose existence the EU does not dispute, as well as to order an investigation into documents which the defence claims exist, although the EU doubts it.  read more...
