UN observer testifies at Gotovina-Cermak-Markac trial
ZAGREB/THE HAGUE, May 20 (Hina) - Alexander Chernyicki, a UN observer in Sector South in the village of Potkonje in Croatia, on Tuesday resumed his testimony before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) at the trial of three Croatian generals - Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac.
His testimony was marked by numerous technical details, models of work of UN observers and some other details.
Chernyicki was a UN observer from June to December 1995. According to his statements to the prosecution in May 2002 and December 2007, Chernyicki testified to plunder and arson in the wake of Operation Storm.
In the course of the operation, from 2 to 8 August, the witness was on leave.
Presiding judge Alphonse Orie said that there was much confusion in the witness's testimony about shelling during the operation.
